California Earned Income Credit (CalEITC)

The refundable California Earned Income Credit is starting its third year and is now bigger and better than ever! Available since 2015, this cash back credit was designed to assist low-income working families and individuals. Claiming the credit is as easy as filling your state tax return!

Beginning the 2017 tax year, families earning up to $22,300 may qualify for CalEITC. Additionally, for the first time, those who earned self-employment income in 2017 may now qualify!

CalEITC eligibility requirements vary by tax year. The income requirements and credit amounts for 2017 are:

Number of Qualifying Children

CA Maximum Income

Cal EITC (up to)

IRS EITC (up to)

3 or more

Visit for full eligibility requirements and income guidelines for the prior years.

If you filed your 2015 and 2016 state returns and think you may qualify for CalEITC, you can still claim this cash back credit by amending your return.

Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) Renewal

If you need to file a tax return in 2018 and your ITIN has expired or will expire you should submit your renewal application now to prevent delays in processing your return. If you use an expired ITIN on a tax return it will be processed and treated as timely filed, but without any exemptions and/or credit claimed and no refund will be paid at the time.
